Where:  This bed is located between the Winks and Annex Buildings on the fairgrounds.

When:  This was the first bed installed by the HCMGA organization and is still in its original location although bigger in size now.  The most recent renovation was done in 2008.  It remains a major focal point along with the Rose Bed at the Fairgrounds.

Why:  The main emphasis for this bed is perennial plant display.  Several perennials are PPOY plants, which means they received a “Perennial Plant of the Year” award.  There are also  large planters that were added to dress up a difficult area between the buildings.  These also have some changing plantings each year that feature some of our plants offerings from the Plant Sale.

Activities:  There are training sessions on how to tend different perennials to maximize their appearance, how to divide a perennial, and how to prune the shrubs that anchor the bed design.  Because of the size of this bed, there is a sign up for several people each week to work on upkeep and watering throughout the growing season.  Recently we have held information sessions for the public during specific times at the 4H Fair in July.
